Regarding
Lecture Series, Events, Symposiums &
Conferences.
Mr. Jimmy
LaRocca is the son of New Orleans Jazz Legend Dominic James “Nick” LaRocca.
His father was the leader of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB), which
recorded the very first jass (jazz) recording ever made in 1917. This recording
was sensational and the ODJB continued to record with great success until 1936
when the original band disbanded.
Mr.
LaRocca is an accomplished composer with over three thousand copy written songs,
a lyricist, a vocalist, a bandleader and most importantly a performer on
trumpet. He formed a current version of the ODJB in 1995, which has performed
for international jazz festivals and most recently for the prestigious Kennedy
Center in Washington, DC.
Mr.
LaRocca is available for lectures and would be happy to debate the early history
of jazz. He has a vast knowledge of what took place during this interesting time
in music history and has many stories told direct to him from his father. Most
New Orleans music families from this important time period are on third or
further generations and not many have musicians following in the same style or
tradition as this early music.
As an individual offering lectures or with his six-member band offering performances, lectures and clinics this is an opportunity you can’t afford to miss. Please complete the form below to check availability and schedule Mr. LaRocca. You will be thrilled with his interesting perspective and insight on early jazz. (Required fields*)
